Two soldiers of the Army Dental Corps, frustrated at continued refusals to their requests to be posted to frontline units, mount their own daring raid on occupied France, write to Churchill declaring their intention and confound the War Office and Army by stealing away with guns and grenades. They attack railway infrastructure and escape a determined German hunt to capture them, surviving for 16 days in a rowing boat adrift in the Channel. One gets posted to the Commando Depot, the other to the Durham Light Infantry. An incredible act of daring do, hard to believe, but true. Black and white photos of the soldiers and post war tributes.

Originally published under the title "Amateur Commandos" in 1980, first editions of which command prices in excess of £45.
