Pair of Framed Boer War Stevenographs - Baden Powell and Lord Roberts

Stevenographs are silk-woven pictures which were made popular by a Coventry silk weaver Thomas Stevens (1828-1888). Stevens used his improved version of the Jacquard loom to weave coloured silk pictures and illustrations. His family continued producing them from his factory after his death. Royalty and Boer War subjects were particularly popular. They are very sought after today.

A brass metal pouch badge to this war raised unit (the Northern and Home Counties both used the same pattern badge), was intended to enable regular army reservist to volunteer for one year as a second line for UK service with so many regular troops deployed to South Africa. An attractive set of three spoons of 2nd Boer War vintage, one depicting Kitchener, one Roberts and the third a general army and navy design with a naval gun embossed in the bowel. In very good condition, slight wear to Roberts spoon on the underside, but an attractive item.
